Federal Pacific Panels are banned in the US because they are unsafe and cause 2800 house fires yearly. Fire issues with breakers melting and/or not tripping. Insurance companies will cancel you if they find out you have one.
I had an electrical issue last week with one circuit. I am usually pretty good with electrical but could not figure this one out. So I called an electrician. He said my panel needs to be replaced because it is a Federal Pacific. This one is on the main floor. The one I have in the basement is not Federal Pacific but is overloaded for what I have on it.
I have decided to have them both replaced. They will have a crew of four here Wednesday to replace both panels, run new feeder lines from the meter, and properly label all circuits. They will have all this done in one day.
So, check your panels and if you have a Federal Pacific, you should plan on having it replaced. If you are buying or selling a house, check the panel/s. Be Safe!!!
